Technical Details
AuraMP is the first media player of its kind. It is a GUI frontend for the top notch cross platform compatable MPlayer engine. It is written in Java which really sets it apart from other similar media players. AuraMP's aim is to be the first cross-platform compatable media player written in Java and based on the excellent mplayer engine offering features other MPlayer frontends tend to lack. You may ask why use Java for something like this?  Java has many advantages over other languages for a project like this.  First it provides easy cross platform support.  Very little core code is platform dependent allowing quicker and simpler development compared to native languages.  Second is the flexibility of the java language and bytecode.  Because of the semi-interpreted nature of the language, many cool things can be done at runtime such as loading libraries to add functionality with full type safety which would be very difficult to do in other languages.  Third is the productivity of the language itself.  The Java language, although not as powerful as C, is an extremely powerful and flexible language but, unlike C, also very intuitive and an easy language to follow.  Aura is licensed under the GPL2 license and is free for everyone to use.
